For nearly 50 years, the North Shore Scenic Route has come alive each June with the energy, excitement, and determination of thousands of competitors chasing something bigger than themselves.
From seasoned marathoners to first-time rookies, participants travel from all 50 states, countries around the world, and every walk of life for one shared experience: Grandma’s Marathon.
More than a race
The race that begins in Two Harbors becomes something much bigger by the time runners cross the finish line in Canal Park. Along the way, each mile tells a unique story of perseverance, personal triumph, and community spirit.
It’s that same powerful combination that has helped Grandma’s Marathon grow from a $3 entry fee, $647 budget, and humble beginnings, into one of the ten largest marathons in the United States. And arguably, one of the most meaningful.
The heart behind the miles
But beyond the numbers, it’s the people who truly make it special.
The early morning training runs when no one else is watching.
The crowds lining the route, cheering strangers like family.
The volunteers, friends, and loved ones who show up year after year.
The moments when helping someone else matters more than the clock.
Grandma’s Marathon is no longer just another race. It’s a tradition, a celebration, and a testament to what’s possible when a community comes together.
Same, but different
As a longtime presenting sponsor of Grandma’s Marathon, we see a lot of parallels between marathon day and everyday life.
This year, as we celebrate our 90th anniversary, we’re reflecting on the journeys we’ve been honored to be part of—not just on race day, but in the everyday lives of our members. Because just like a marathon, behind every financial goal is a story.
And being the one cheering at the finish line just feels right.
Supporting every step
Whether it’s buying your first home, saving for the future, growing a business, or navigating life’s unexpected turns, every milestone matters. And just like the marathoners that gather each year along the North Shore, no two financial journeys look exactly the same.
That’s why we’re here. We don’t just celebrate life’s big moments; we help make them possible. We stand beside our members through every challenge, every financial decision, and every milestone along the way.
From race day to everyday banking, we take pride in being part of a community defined by strength, resilience, and connection.
So, here’s to 50 years of Grandma’s. And 90 years of us.
