Neil graduated from Bemidji State University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He currently enjoys life in the Canosia Township area. In his spare time, he has fun hunting, fishing, traveling with his wife, and following the stock market.

Justin Riemer
Commercial Lending Manager

Owning and financing a business is a significant deal and it helps to have a friend in finances by your side. With seven years of experience in the financial services industry, Justin joined MCCU’s Business Department in 2019. “In my time doing lending, I have developed a passion for working with businesses to figure out ways to get their projects completed,” said Justin. “Every business has different needs, and I look forward to providing them with financial solutions that work best for them”.
Justin holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, hiking, and spending Summers on the water with his family. Justin also plays softball and volleyball in the Duluth community and enjoys volunteering his time at the Great Lakes Aquarium.

Alex Bastien

Having worked in the financial services industry since 2006, Alex brings a wealth of experience assisting businesses with startups, expansions, purchases, succession financing, and other economic development projects.
“I’m excited to be part of the commercial lending team at MCCU,” says Alex. “I’m able to use my direct experience to help our members and surrounding communities.”
Born and raised in Duluth, Alex grew up skiing at Chester Bowl and attended the College of St. Scholastica. In his spare time, Alex still enjoys skiing, as well as traveling with his wife and two kids, biking, and playing drums in a local band.

John Shannon

Equal parts business and family man, John Shannon made the switch from Branch Manager of the Moose Lake branch to the MCCU business team in 2019. “I am thrilled to work with the business community in pursuit of helping them identify their business needs and providing them with sound financial solutions”, said John.
When the work day ends, family time begins. Most evenings and weekends, you will find John and his wife, Nicole, sitting courtside or at an ice arena watching their kids’ sporting practices and cheering them on. John and his family also enjoy the great outdoors where you’ll find them tubing on the lake, side-by-siding down a dusty trail, or hiking and showshoeing in Minnesota’s nature.
John is a recent graduate of the MCCU Emerging Leaders Program. He is also a current board member of The Mercy Foundation, Moose Lake Area Chamber, and Moose Lake Area Food Shelf.
